One night they are all in Mikey's attic and Mikey stumbles across an old map. Mikey has always wanted to know if One-eyed Willy ever was a real person and now he might. They set off and later realize that they have to go through the evil Mama Fratelli's restaurant to get to a secret passage to the caves. As they try to get into the caves Mama Fratelli catches Chuck and he is left behind. He then meets Sloth one of Mama Fratelli's sons with a messed up face. He befriends Sloth. Meanwhile Mama Fratelli and her sons are trying to get to the treasure too. Will the kids make it there before Mama Fratelli does? Will Chuck ever get out of her basement?

I didn't really watch movies as a youngster back in the 80's so I never saw this as a child, therefore, the whole cult of The Goonies is something that has simply passed me by. It seems to be one of those 80's movies that has a certain nostalgic power over those who saw it back in the day. I can only imagine that the reason for this is primarily down to the kids themselves, as the film is fairly generic and not overly original otherwise. But the boys do act in an unusual way for a movie aimed at children. They swear, make sexual innuendos and joke about hard drugs. So I suppose they act similar to how kids do in real life and I am supposing this is a major reason for the film's enduring appeal. It's not as saccharine as most family movies.
It also has Corey Feldman in it, which I guess for some people gives a movie a certain 80's seal of approval. I noticed that the hobbit fella was part of the Goonie gang too. And the little Chinese bloke from Temple of Doom. Leaving the fat funny one who was probably the best thing about the film. It was also nice to see an old favourite of mine, Cyndi Lauper singing the catchy title tune. She really was great.
I'm not going to detail the story as anyone reading this will surely know it already. But suffice to say, the film moves along at a cracking pace and does not outstay its welcome. The film has Spielberg Production written all over it and that is certainly not always a good thing. But it's actually really quite difficult to dislike this movie as it does possess a certain 80's charm.
